The New House And New Goals For 2010
It’s been a full week and we are loving our new home .  We are still waiting for the new furniture for our living room to arrive, along with some bar stools for the kitchen, but other than those items, we are all settled.  (If you ever want to find out just how much stuff you have – move!  Whew.) Obviously, now that we have a house...

Not tracking our spending has repercussions
We just had an offer accepted for a new home a couple of days ago.  As such, there’s now a flurry of excitement and financial activity going on in our household now, and there will continue to be excitement even after our current house is sold. Part of this excitement involved taking the first steps to adjust to a new mortgage payment. ...
Too Old for Gifts, But Not for Christmas
Christmas is less than three weeks away. In past years, I would have completed my shopping by now. Indeed, in past years my shopping has always been done by about the middle of October. This year presents new challenges and I don’t know what to do about them. My kids are  Read More →
House Renovation on a Budget
House renovation projects have become increasingly popular with so many people deciding to stay in their current homes rather than upgrading to newer, larger ones. Renovations allow you to turn your house into the home of your dreams without taking on a larger mortgage payment. House renovation projects really pay off, though, when you manage to...

Year End Financial Planning – What You Need to Be Doing Now
I love the fall months. The colors of the flowers and trees, the pleasant weather, and even school activities with the family combine to create my favorite time of year. The coming of fall brings more than good times and pretty sights, though. Fall is the perfect time to start looking to the end of another year’s finances. “What is there to think...
What Will It Take To Pay Off Our Mortgage Early?
What Will It Take To Pay Off Our Mortgage Early?
In a few weeks, we will make our first mortgage payment.  Our mortgage is a fixed-rate 15 year mortgage .  Obviously, I’m not a fan of debt – and I’m going to work very, very hard to pay our mortgage off early.  Using a mortgage calculator I calculated the following the scenarios for paying the mortgage off early – 15...
Holiday Festivities, House Guests and One Sick Kid
I’ve been trying to finish the holiday shopping early , but I doubt I’ll be successful this year. It’s been a terribly hectic and cold week (32 degrees in the Bay Area? Really?). My parents are visiting from Asia, the schools are having their Christmas programs, companies are hosting their annual holiday parties and we’re...
A Life Without Debt: The Debt Free House
The only debt we’ve ever incurred was to buy our house. At the time we bought, we just didn’t have a spare $150K lying around so we had to get a mortgage. We knew going in that we didn’t want to be stuck with it for thirty years so we set out to buy a  Read More →
Am I Unethical For Buying “Boys” Shirts?
So recently I was able to save money on shirts by buying them in the boys section instead of the women’s section. I first found a shirt that was $6 in Boys that cost $13 in womens. About two weeks later the shirts went on sale (super score!!!!) for $3 each so I skipped over to the Boys section again and got three more (those were the only colors...
